The Icon Project
Icons, which have been called "windows to heaven," lift up our minds from earthly things to the heavenly. St. John of Damascus wrote, "We are led by perceptible Icons to the contemplation of the divine and spiritual."
Icons, which are also are part of the Church's tradition, have an integral place in the liturgy as well as the prayer life of the Christian. When one prays, one speaks to Christ and the saints who, in the icons, stand before the person.
The Western Rite Directory, which governs Western Rite Vicariate parishes, states that only "genuine icons of authentic style and suitable reproductions" should be used.
With these things in mind, a reputable iconographer recommended by Bishop MARK has been contacted, and has submitted a bid for six icons which will adorn the newly completed sanctuary at Holy Incarnation.
More than half of the cost of this icon project has already been secured. You are asked to consider donating toward the remaining cost of this project.
